One of our coworkers, Jan, became ill and had to stay at home. I would send her something in the mail every day: usually a cartoon or joke. It turns out that Cathy (who had retired) was spending every day at Jan's, caring for her until a relative would be able to come live with Jan. One day I received a call from Cathy saying, "We didn't receive our joke in the mail today. You know, it is a very important thing for Jan to receive that joke. It really helps her." The next day Cathy called, "We received two jokes today. I guess it was the post office." That is how I learned what Cathy was doing for Jan. She was a wonderful friend.
