Timeline

Friday January 20, at 10:17:53 AM Pacific Standard Time is 2 billion (2.000e+09) seconds after my birth certificate claims I was born. I cannot confirm this, I did not have an accurate watch at that time.

3 Gs party, mark your calendar!

Space and Time Coordinates

Directions to 4180 sw 99th Beaverton (actually West Slope).

Computing 2 gigaseconds.

Duration Calculator be sure to correct for DST, September was DST when I was born.

There have been 27 leap seconds added to the UTC clock since 1972, when this practice began. These leap seconds are included in the calculations above. Programmers hate leap seconds, and want to redefine the UTC day. Physicists and astronomers prefer precise standard units. We will have at least one physicist, one astronomer, and many programmers at the 2Gs party. This will be the officially approved controversy to argue about at the 2Gs party, not other events happening on July 20.

More Trivia

The standard second is the duration of 9 192 631 770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the cesium 133 atom. So I will be 18 385 263 540 000 000 000 cesium 133 atom oscillations old. Except that the first caesium clock was built by Louis Essen in 1955 at the National Physical Laboratory in the UK, so no cesium atoms have oscillated in any known clock as long as I have oscillated around the Sun.
